There is no perfect cue case. Every case has its own unique characteristics which complete it in it's own way. Individually having factors that complete its design and some specs that may not be seen on it that other case design have it. And vice versa.
In my opinion, there are basically only two types of cases categorically speaking. Hard cases and Soft cases.
An array of designs fall under hard cases that the list will just go on, as hard cases are progressively developed since the Brunswick (luggage type) to Flowers (leather) days until now. The makers' ideas are still pointing towards the vision of making the hard case a hard case that is lightweight yet still carries the protection of a hard one.
Now, enter the soft cases. Which as well have so many design variations. But this time its goal is gravitated towards the weight and portability issues. They go towards the "compact" idea, that the player can carry his favorite cue(s) but minus the bulk weight on his shoulders before a big match or just to be practical and casual since the room is just a stone's throw away.
Another important point is protection like if you travel a lot, go for a hard case with the hard shell and all. That is a perfect case in that aspect. no matter how hard the material you have in your cases if your not responsible enough your cues are still in for damage. But if you are just going to your local pool room or maybe a tourney in the next block go for a soft case. That is practical and perfect again in its own aspect as a soft case.
But i have experienced and seen myself top players who have hi-end hard cases that they still pack in travel bags when flying. They bring soft cases as spare when they need to carry just a cue and leave the hard case in their hotel rooms. So they can move around comfortably. Which is another category-" comfort". This is self-explanatory so i will not dwell on this. With these understanding i think its a matter of personal preference for it to be called your "perfect cue case".
Cases, whether hard or soft its how you would want it. Considering your needs, comfortability, protection to fit your lifestyle like if you travel often, your budget and maybe your taste aesthetically or visually. And believe me or not, fashion, where in you can see your individuality as the owner of the case maybe in how your case was designed just for you and your taste, that's color, leather type, some personalized initials, and so on. For example, just an analogy, How many times do we go to a party and feel funny when the italian linen branded shirt we have been saving for some time to impress a date and then low and behold another guy is wearing the same expensive shirt and he bought months ahead of you already.
That's why we have different custom cue case makers who can build that "perfect cue case" we all want.
Just my 2 cents.

How I came up with light weight cases.
How I came up with light weight cases. This venture I planned years ago even before I started case making when I was an active player on tourneys and money matches. I used to carry a very expensive branded hard case ( I will not mention if you don't mind which I sold after a month) I got two and it was just too heavy and bulky even for a 2x4 that I get stressed and tired going to matches that i get shakes on my shoulders. I have to go early to matches to give myself a couple of hours rest to get rid of the stress it puts on my shoulders even when I travel in my car not commute. This lead me to a mission and vision that since I am a player and have experience this issue personally, i want to build cases as light, as flat as compact as possible not to make money but to help players enjoy carrying their cues without tiring themselves plus they will be carrying not only a case that has the same cue carrying function but it is aesthetically beautiful as well. the design and carvings are all rolled together during the design process. this make up my cases. not two separate entities.
My Light weight Pool Cue Cases in a 3x5 Set-up
My design is based on true experiences over the years of playing and hanging around pool halls observing most of the time whats happening outside the ring of tables and matches. I gathered infos and started taking notes and found out that even our pros carry hard cases(or have a bodyguard to carry it for them mostly their drivers or relatives tagging along) during money matches most of them I still see laying their hard cases on tables on the side rather than keeping them standing up. This lead me to design a case that should be light and flat at the back. So I decided not to put pockets at the back or a pocket in the first place coz it would add up to weight. But on the other hand, since assuming you have stuff to carry like accessories , a pocket would not make any difference since the weight has been scaled up already due to the 3 butts and 5 shafts set up. I have to make another dimension for a 3x5 since this is my first 3x5 project. I am figuring out how to make it still look like an urban gent and as light as possible at 3x5 set up. Weights may vary since leathers have some inconsistency in thickness. But i try to not make it over 1 pound that much as much as possible. so if you carry 20 oz pair of cues its still light. I am trying to make every case as compact and light and as thin as possible even if it is already holding a 2x4 set up.
